- Fakhria Ibrahimi
Fakhria is FNAW’s Kabul representative, and previously worked with us as an intern on the Mapping Gender in Afghanistan Database. She graduated from the Rabia Balhki Girls’ High School in Kabul but fled Afghanistan when the Taliban took control. Settling in Peshawar, she started medical school at the Afghan University in Peshawar in 2001, and continued her medical studies upon returning to Afghanistan. She is a trained film director and has an avid interest in culture and literature issues. She also recently participated in the Women & Politics Training given by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, and was recently named a Muslim Leader of Tomorrow by the American Society for the Advancement of Muslims (ASMA).
- Reza Jafary
Reza is FNAW’s local language webmaster. He was born in Balkh, Afghanistan and immigrated to Iran as a child, where he eventually earned his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Tehran University, and worked in flower production. He is currently completing his Master’s degree. Reza works in computer science, and specifically in database design and management and ICDL courses. He returned to Kabul last year and currently works at Entikhab, a private IT and advertising firm, as an IT Manager and Web Designer. He also has experience as a veterinary advisor and was an active member of a private school for Afghan refugee children living in Tehran, Iran.
- Lauryn Oates
Lauryn is FNAW’s Coordinator. Lauryn has been involved in advocating for rights for women and girls in Afghanistan since 1996 and involved in FNAW since its founding. As a freelance consultant specializing in gender equity, human rights and education, Lauryn has worked for a variety of clients around the world undertaking program design, proposal writing, communications, membership development, evaluation, research and project management. Lauryn holds a BA Honours in International Development Studies from McGill University, an MA in Human Security and Peacebuilding from Royal Roads University, and is a PhD student in Education (Dept. of Language and Literacy Education) at the University of British Columbia.
- Gayatri Srinivasan
Gayatri has volunteered for FNAW since early 2008 and helps with a variety of projects. Gayatri is a freelance NGO volunteer from India. She is a Management graduate from BITS Pilani, India, specializing in Management Information Systems. She started her career in India, Denmark and then in the USA where she worked on Wall Street for almost three years as a Programme Analyst, and eventually took a long sabbatical. That sabbatical led her down new paths and finally into the NGO world where she discovered how to draw meaning and purpose from applying her technical skills to the work of non-profit organzations. She volunteers her time for organizations in India and abroad. Writing, teaching computers to elderly people, and conducting surveys on school children’s skills are just some of the projects that she has led with various organizations. She lives with her parents in Chennai, Tamilnadu.
